The Risks of Playing with Prilled Urea
On the other side of the field is prilled urea, or dry urea, a player that often jeopardizes the game due to its high exposure to contaminants throughout every stage of production and distribution. It is imported from China, Russia, or the Middle East and passes through multiple intermediaries.
To reduce transportation costs, this input undergoes a solidification process using cooling towers, exposing it to high levels of biuret. In addition, it is stored in woven polypropylene bags, leaving it exposed to moisture, salts, dust, and fauna during maritime and land transport, as well as storage and distribution.
By the end of the day, when this product reaches the DEF tank of your tractor-trailer, the “ball” is completely contaminated. The use of this low-quality prilled urea puts the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system of Euro 6 technology engines at risk, leading to unplanned fleet downtime and extremely costly maintenance.
